‘Gutawa Khich’ by Gia Singh Arora

"Filming ma while cooking in Falmouth, UK." A short film by Gia Singh Arora

“Ma when I pick up my camera and shoot

you and your body, I see you better. When

I don’t use my own eye and rely on the

camera’s, I learn to recognise you

better too. My own gaze disappoints me. I

love you so much when the camera looks

at you because sometimes (okay, most

times) it reminds me of death. And in that

acknowledgement I want to miss no part of

you—no reaction, no body posture and no

characteristic. I want to see you through.

Through and through.”

Creativity needs nurturing. ALMA is a veritable melting pot of expression and free thought, be it via the written word or visual mediums. Behind that is a small but passionate team of editors and illustrators working round the clock. Your contributions will help keep both our spirits and quality of work high!
